Don't Let your Texas
Electric Bill
Burn through Your Savings
AUSTIN – Just because the temperature is rising doesn’t
mean your electric bill should. According to the Public Utility
Commission, there are a number of ways you can keep electricity
costs at bay during the hot months ahead:
- Compare Retail Electric Providers — More than 25
Retail Electric Providers currently offer service to Texas residential
and business customers. Residential customers who switch
to the lowest cost provider can save between $180 and $324 over
the year.
- Ask about average billing — Average billing can
ease the burden of high summer bills by allowing you to pay approximately
the same amount for electric service each month. This can
help you budget for electricity more efficiently from month to
month.
- Explore energy efficiency programs — Each Retail
Electric Provider offers incentives for energy efficiency technologies
such as home weatherization, energy-efficient equipment and energy-saving
appliances. PUC Chairman Rebecca Klein urges Texas electric customers
to learn more about cost-saving opportunities this summer.
“We want customers to feel comfortable running their
air conditioners in the summer heat,” she said. “Taking advantage
of these money-saving opportunities can help alleviate cost concerns.”
Klein also urges Texans to contact their Retail Electric
Provider if they have trouble paying their bills during the summer.
“If you have trouble paying your electric bill, ask your Retail
Electric Provider about deferred payment plans and bill payment
assistance funds, or see if you qualify for a low-income discount,”
she said. |
